I need a provider who gives MS SQL server database space. My present web hosting provider gives only 200 MB which is not sufficient. i need at least 1 GB. No need for a web hosting company, I need only dedicated database service provider.
You might want to rent a cloud server from Rackspace or Amazon. Rackspace has cloud servers starting at around $20.00/month with ~40GB of space, Linux and MySQL preinstalled, root access, etc.

Mishra Your Answer: First thing you must note down that if you want your website to be free of cost for you cant have your own domain name i.e. it cant be
www.yourname.com etc for free.
However , it can be free if you compramise with subdomain like
yourname.serviceprovider.com or www.serviceprovider.com/yourna… etc
but you can have free webspace.
then follow these steps
1. Go to one of the free web hosting website(listed below)
go and search the best web web hosting on
http://www.freewebspace.net
or go directly to the one selected by me

2. Register for free and remember your password.
3. Create your home page on your PC using html(if you dont know html you can create it using FRONTPAGE which is provided by Microsoft in windows 2000 or you can download a html editor from net also).
4. Save this page as index.htm
5. Now login in your free webhosting account and go to file manager(most of the webhosting websites have file manager)
6. Upload your "index.htm" page at top level without renaming
7. if you want more than one pages in your website then create those pages with your html editor(FrontPage)with their different names and provide links in your homepage(index.htm) targetting each of those page. (in target dont type the web address , just type the name of the target with extension like help.htm)
8. Upload those other pages also at same level.
9. Pictures can also be provided by same method(hyperlink the picture in page and upload it in file manager at same level)

The answer SHOULD be yes. VPS stands for Virtual Private Server, which basically indicates that you have a server that acts as though it were its own machine, even though it’s on a machine with many other ‘virtual servers’ on it as well.
So you may be one of 10 or 20 VPS installations on a machine. Each installation is like it’s own mini server with its own instance of an operating system and everything.
Whether or not you get SSH access depends on the company offering you the VPS.
Most VPS companies DO allow SSH, and all of them SHOULD, but some may not. Just make sure you find out for SURE before paying any money!

I actually use godaddy now as although they are American based they do have a UK support number, again reliable and very helpful if you need any advice. Very reasonable costs.

000webhost appears to be good but not the fastest at getting your site set up. They even allow a free version so you can try it out. Unfortunatly they are not European based.
I set up hosting on GoDaddy and they ask you to choose. My web guy said to go with Linux. What does this mean and what is the difference? Is it easier for me to make changes if it’s Windows and that’s the kind of PC I have, or does it only have to do with the type of PC my web guy used to design the site? Thanks a lot!
Linux and Windows are two groups of packages offered by hosting companies. Linux is usually the cheaper solution but there is no difference in performance regardless of price, its just that Windows license is expensive.
As far as WHICH ONE TO CHOOSE, it makes no difference at all if you have a static HTML website. It only matters if you want to create a dynamic database driven website (i.e. requires server side programming in some way). With dynamic websites, Windows platform offers you ASP/ASP.NET + MS SQL SERVER/MS ACCESS support; where as Linux platform offers PHP/PERL + MySQL support. If you don’t need to use any of the above technologies, go for Linux which is usually cheaper.

Lycos trypod is free, but u get annoying banners that go every where which will drive you nuts, allthough i use php to generate xml stuff, so i dont get to see them.
I have developed a java based web application using struts, tomcat, mysql etc. I want to host all of these on a server (OS platform should not matter since it is all Java and mysql) that runs in some reliable data center. I want to get the benefit of all the managed services (they take backups etc right) but have my own server for dealing with the user-load and also that the Java apps dont run nicely on shared hosted systems (and they will not have all the tools and libraries we use). I am looking to see if there is any data center in India as well that has proven connectivity. Whatsoever information on this topic is much appreciated.
I’d like to see what people have to say about this too. I’m not sure if this will help, but it should certainly get you in the ballpark.

Most business hosting companies have dedicated servers as part of what they offer. I’m sure you could get them fully managed too…that’s what I’d shoot for too.
