Hello,
I know nothing about ASP scripts but I want to create a visitor registration page for my webiste, which is hosted on GoDaddy’s "shared" hosting service. There tech support for scripting is non-existent. How do I build the script? Where does the script need to reside on the host server? Any help greatly appreciated.
So, you’ve got one of GoDaddy’s Windows hosting plans, correct?
Any page named with an extension of .asp should run your scripts. You can build it with standard HTML code, but insert asp code between <% and %> delimiters.
This your first ASP work? You can get an overview of the scripting language various places on the net like:
* http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms972337.aspx
* http://www.w3schools.com/asp/
* http://www.w3schools.com/vbscript/ (ASP often runs as an extension of another scripting language, like VBScript)
Are you looking at connecting to an MSSQL database to store the visitor information? Then you’ll also need to dig into ADO tutorials.
Maybe you want to look at open source tools which provide examples of what you’re planning to do:

If this isn’t helping, feel free to explain what you’re intending to do further.
Thanks,
Adam Cunningham

i am goin to open a website of news,blogs,communities,E-mail,web messenger,matrimonial,online buying and selling,file storing etc. so i need minimum 5gb of webspace and minimum 500 gb of database.
i am expecting around 2,00,000 members will login into my website. i dont know where to take web hosting. and also i want the meaning of what is shared and dedicated hosting. thanks in advance.
I will say dedicated hosting is more suitable for your requirement.
Dedicated server
Performance – You are not sharing the system resources such as processor power, memory and disk space with other sites on the same server.
Greater Reliability – You do not run the risk of the server being slowed down, swamped with traffic, or crashed by another site on a shared server.
Security – As nobody else has access to the server you can be sure of having a much greater degree of security.
Custom Configuration – If you need to install special software or configure the server to your own particular needs then often a dedicated server is the solution.
Custom Firewall – Run your own custom firewall to enforce your own access control policy.
Your own IP address – Most shared hosting sites share a single IP address, with site traffic directed by the server examining `host headers’. In contrast your dedicated server has its own unique IP address.
Upgrade Path – More memory, disk space or extra processors can be added as the need arises.
Shared Hosting
The shared web hosting is an inexpensive entry point for low traffic websites, running within the setup constraints of the standard accounts. As some sites expand, the shared hosting accounts become limiting.

Something comprable to slicehost (http://www.slicehost.com) in terms of cost.
http://www.1and1.com is the cheapest I’ve seen so far and I use them. Another alternative would be http://www.easycgi.com but they are more expensive than 1and1.
By the way, I have used 1and1 for years and their customer service isn’t that bad either. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact me.
What are some good companies or websites that offer shared ssl support? I’m only concerned about secure hosting.
Thanks.

I am starting up an online payment processing company like PayPal. I wanna know which option to go with. Dedicated or Shared hosting? I have seen a Shared hosting company that offeres Unlimited Everything! http://www.heartinternet.co.uk/business-h.shtml should i go with them or should i go with FastHost? http://www.fasthosts.co.uk/dedicatedservers/
A good dedicated server is more expensive.
Shared hosting can be slow if others are taking the bandwidth.
It’s up to you but if a site is going to VERY busy then shared hosting is out of the question.
